به عبارت دیگر، هدف اصلی این تحقیق، تحلیل نشانه‌شناختی هویت دینی در  پویانمایی‌های ایرانی(مورد مطالعه: مجموعه پویانمایی پیامبران) است. این تحقیق در رهیافت مطالعات فرهنگی و با تأکید بر نظریه بازنمایی استوارت هال[۱] و بهره‌گیری از نظریه‌های مرتبط با حوزه دین به ویژه نظریه گلاک و استارک[۲] صورت گرفته است. جامعه آماری شامل پویانمایی‌های ایرانی است که در طول سال‌های گذشته با محوریت دین و مسائل دینی در صدا و سیمای جمهوری اسلامی ایران تولید و پخش شده است. نمونه‌گیری در این پژوهش به روش نمونه‌گیری هدفمند غیر تصادفی انجام شد و ۳ قسمت از پویانمایی‌ پیامبران(کشتی نوح، آتش سرد و صابران) به عنوان نمونه انتخاب شده است. برای تحلیل نشانه‌شناسی پویانمایی‌ها از الگوی روایی بارت[۳] و همچنین از تحلیل سه‌گانه فیسک و هارتلی[۴] استفاده شده است. نتایج تحقیق نشان داد بازنمایی هویت دینی در پویانمایی‌ پیامبران با جهت‌گیری، چارچوب‌‌بندی رسانه‌ای و کارکردهای ایدئولوژیک همراه است. در این پویانمایی‌ها ابعاد مختلف هویت دینی – بعد اعتقادی، مناسکی، تجربه‌ای و پیامدی- بازنمایی می‌شود.
